What Level Should I Pick?

Swim school levels are where swimmers should start their swimming journey to ensure safety and begin the steps to competitive swimming. Swim school levels are generally split into two age groups: ages 3-5 and ages 6+. The skills worked on are the same in each age group, but activities and water depth are based on the swimmer’s age.

SWIM SCHOOL LEVELS 1-5: 

Sign up for Guppy 3-5 if:  

  • The swimmer is ages 3-5. 
  • Is not comfortable with water on their head or face. 
  • Cannot enter the water and submerge for 3-5 seconds comfortably and relaxed consistently. 

Sign up for Guppy 6+ if:  

  • The swimmer is ages 6+ 
  • Is not comfortable with water on their head or face. 
  • Cannot enter the water and submerge for 3-5 seconds comfortably and relaxed consistently.  

Sign up for Clownfish 3-5 if: 

  • The swimmer is ages 3-5. 
  • Is comfortable submerging unassisted while blowing bubbles for 3-5 seconds consistently. 
  • Is able to perform relaxed float on front and back with support. 
  • Cannot jump in roll to their back to rest and breathe for 3-5 seconds consistently.  

Sign up for Clownfish 6+ if: 

  • The swimmer is ages 6+. 
  • Is comfortable submerging unassisted while blowing bubbles for 3-5 seconds consistently. 
  • Is able to perform relaxed float on front and back with support. 
  • Cannot jump in, roll to their back to rest and breathe for 3-5 seconds consistently.  

Sign up for Sting Ray 3-5 if: 

  • The swimmer is ages 3-5. 
  • Is able to swim big arms for 2 body lengths with face in the water. 
  • Is able to swim, monkey, airplane, and soldier unassisted for 5 rounds. 
  • Cannot tread water independently for 10 seconds, relaxed and consistently.  

Sign up for Sting Ray 6+ if: 

  • The swimmer is ages 6+. 
  • Is able to swim big arms for 2 body lengths with face in the water. 
  • Is able to swim, monkey, airplane, and soldier unassisted for 5 rounds. 
  • Cannot tread water independently for 10 seconds, relaxed and consistently.  

Sign up for Eel 3+ if:  

  • The swimmer is ages 3+. 
  • Is able to swim freestyle with side breathing for 5 cycles with correct head and body position. 
  • Is able to flutter kick unassisted on a kickboard for 8 yards. 
  • Is able to swim backstroke unassisted for 5 cycles. 

Sign up for Seal 3+ if:  

  • The swimmer is ages 3+. 
  • Is able to swim freestyle with side breathing for 15 yards with correct head and body position. 
  • Is able to swim backstroke for 15 yards unassisted 
  • Is able to swim elementary backstroke (monkey, airplane, soldier) for 25 yards 
STROKE SCHOOL LEVELS 6-8: 

Sign up for Dolphin if:  

  • The swimmer has passed Seal. 
  • Is able to swim Freestyle for 25 yards with proper timing, technique, and side breathing.   
  • Is able to swim Backstroke for 25 Yards with proper timing, arm recovery, and kick. 
  • Cannot swim Butterfly for 15 Yards with proper timing, undulation, and breathing. 

Sign up for Whale if:  

  • The swimmer has passed Dolphin. 
  • Is able to swim Freestyle for 50 yards with proper timing, technique, and side breathing.   
  • Is able to swim Backstroke for 50 yards with proper timing, arm recovery, and kick. 
  • Is able to swim Butterfly for 15 Yards with proper timing, arm recovery, and kick.  
  • Cannot swim Breaststroke for 15 Yards with proper timing, undulation, breathing, kick, and technique. 

Sign up for Shark if:  

  • The swimmer has passed both Dolphin and Whale. 
  • Is able to swim Freestyle for 75 yards with proper timing, technique, and side breathing.   
  • Is able to swim Backstroke for 75 Yards with proper timing, arm recovery, and kick. 
  • Is able to swim Butterfly for 25 Yards with proper timing, arm recovery, and Kick.  
  • Is able to swim Breaststroke for 15 Yards with proper timing, undulation, breathing, kick, and technique.
